Site Traffic: What To Expect

WordPress.com has built-in features for your site to be discovered by new viewers, including the “Follow a Tag” and “Recommendations” features in the WordPress.com Reader. These features are currently only available to sites who are hosted on WordPress.com. When you move your site to another hosting provider, you may notice an initial decrease in traffic to your site until you find another methods to attract new visitors to your site.

We migrate your WordPress.com followers and email subscribers for you as part of your Guided Transfer service. Your email subscribers will continue to receive email notifications when you post something new, but subscribers who have only followed you on WordPress.com will now only see new posts in their Readers. They won’t receive email notifications of your new posts, unless they also subscribe to your new self-hosted site, using the Jetpack subscription widget (or other subscription service, if you choose.) You may want to make a post on your old site that lets your readers know this.
